Currently running 42.82 drivers on WinXP Pro SP1. Have a Geforce2 MX w/32MB. I was attempting to update the drivers to a newer version but the install gets nearly done then I get a message that there is an incorrect parameter and the installation fails. When I reboot, the default Microsoft driver is running. I can't even re-install the 42.82 driver. I've tried 3x.xx drivers, too. I can not get any Nvidia driver to install. Luckily, XP does a backup and I am able to use System Restore to return to the 42.82 driver as it was before I attempted an install.

This is driving me crazy. I've disabled EVERYTHING, no anti-virus running, nothing else running except the bare-minimums, but no driver will install, all say "invalid parameter" (and no indication of what it is that is invalid).

I've tried using the latest version of NFR, I've uninstalled the Nvidia driver, run NFR, doesn't help. I've used the Nvidia Setup.exe as well as tried the "update driver" from the device manager. Nothing works.

Any ideas? :o

I was going to suggest the update driver from device manager... When this happened to me with an ATI card I reinstalled. You are sure to get peak performance (tweaks not withstanding) from a fresh install. I cant wait for CAT 3.3; I am sick?

sounds like your comp is corrupting the drivers as you download, try getting them from somone off a cd, or use a diff utilty to download with, or simply try getting them from a diff site.

Have already tried installing from Device Manager. I've checked all of the downloaded files, there is no corruption. I have tried 6 different versions of Detonator drivers, all get the same result of "Invalid parameter" at the end of the install, which results in them not being installed.

Try to take advantage from msconfig. Use it to unload all auto start up. Then reboot your computer and try to install the driver.Make sure you have the driver for winXp as you are using windows XP. You can enable the auto start up if the procedure works. If it doesn't work, try uninstalling the old driver and reboot then install the standard VGA As your graphic addaptor in Device manager then reboot. After windows has been boot up, try to install the driver in Divice manager. Please do reply either it helps or don't thank you for testing.

Thanks, but have tried all of that, doesn't help. Installing any version of the Nvidia drivers ends with "Invalid Parameter" and the driver doesn't install, I end up back with the original Microsoft Nvidia driver that comes with WinXP. I have to do a System Restore to get back to the 42.82 driver I installed a while ago.

I know what u mean, have the same prob during modding nv drivers.

1. the .INF file may be damaged or just buggy
2. your registry is like cheese

Solution: start regedit and remove keys

Delete all subkeys in here:
HKLM,SYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlVideo
HKLM,SYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlClass{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Delete all these keys:
HKLM,SYSTEMCurrentControlSetHardware ProfilesCurrentSystemCurrentControlSetSERVICESNV4DEVICE0
HKLM,SYSTEMCurrentControlSetHardware ProfilesCurrentSystemCurrentControlSetSERVICESNV
HKLM,SYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesNv

Confused or dont help ?
