bios-ram settings,asus mobo, cpu/mem ratio question
It's not a VooDoo! ITS A FRIGGIN Voodoo!!!
This topic was started by BigJosh,
Alright...system specs below....here'e my question...
I have 3 settings for cpu/mem ration in my bios. Auto, 1:1, 4:3. This board "supports" pc2100 and pc1600. Now since i have pc2100 in the system and it supports 133mhz fsb...(tell me if Im wrong but,) the auto setting should put the ratio @ 1:1, right? Okay..and you see my system is overclocked...but does leaving this setting on auto actually just hold the memory at or around 133mhz by figuring out what the divider should be automatically....or does it just "automatically" go to a 1:1 ratio when it recognizes the pc2100 and then run at 158mhz (316mhz eff.)? Benchmarks show the latter fo the two. The 1:1 setting got me 1200 more points on 3Dmark01se, but I lose stability in just one game on my computer. (golden tee golf) I dont know....
Thoughts?
Thanx in advance

Yo man,
The 1:1 setting is the better version. It does not automatically
go to this. 133mhz is 2100 indeed, you're right.
But what i think is that the crash in the game is explained
by the overclock of your processor. Now i might be wrong, it could
be some game crap, but i think that the 1:1 setting improves
the performance so much that you get the overclock trouble.
I'd try to lower your cpu speed just a little bit and then try
with the 1:1 setting, if not, what about your cpu fan? is it
a good fan or not? Ok i hope i helped

I'd agree with that, and also it may be worth slightly upping the voltage of the CPU & Memory to see if that solves the stability issue?
