i forgot to mention that i am usually converting from MPG, AVI (uncompressed i guess) and some XVID aswell, the sizes for MPG/AVI are usually 600mb, i get them down to about 350-400mbs after conversion using Dr Divx 1.6 w/ 850kb/s video and 192kb/s sound ... with XVID i get about 250mbs after conversion....

What I do is use DVD Decryptor to download and decode down to the hard drive.
If your doing Divx, I would use VirtualDub or Dr. Divx to conver them over (Dr Divx can merge all of the vob files in to one big Divx file).
If your using XVid, I would use VirtualDub.

From what I hear, Xvid is better then Divx, but I own a Phillips DVD-642 which is a DivX Certified device, so it's easier for me to convert into a format that runs on my dvd player.

thanks for the replies guys, umm, i am not converting from a dvd, i actually already have DIVX files ready to be burned to DVD,.... but i need a program that lets me burn DIVX to M2V files (dvd format) and also rip the audio to AC3, i know DIVX2DVD does this but only one file ata time, so i want to know if theres any other program like DVD SANTA or TMPGENC EXPRESS if they can do like 3 files and compress it enuff to fit on a DVD, and then i can use TMPGENC AUTHOR to make menus for them and burn.... thx

or just get a divx player
we recently bought one
cheap one from amazon
Yamada DVX-6600 Multiregion DVD-Player
pretty much cheap ..
but the player does very well for the price ... the menu is ugly but OK
softwareupdate works fine
sometimes it crashes while loading CD
but up to now it played every divx / mpg movie the pc played without problems, too
only 1 movie out of 20 had no sound
and xvid sometimes goes a bit slow
but all in all for the price of 60€ it was a very good offer
