Barton 2.5
This is a discussion about Barton 2.5 in the General Hardware category; Hi, I want to upgrade (long overdue) and I'm thinking about an AN7 board with a 2.5 Barton because this combination is really quite cheap in my part of the world.

Hi, I want to upgrade (long overdue) and I'm thinking about an AN7 board with a 2.5 Barton because this combination is really quite cheap in my part of the world. But I've been told the multiplier on new Bartons are locked, and the AN7 board won't unlock It. My question is, if I decide to try overclocking couldn't I just increase the FSB, leaving the multiplier at it's default, ...... would this work? any advice appreciated.

ok guys thanks for the info, bottom line is I can O/C a "locked" 2.5 Barton to 3.2 by upping the FSB and leaving the multiplier at default. I need good branded memory, and a decent HSF, ........sounds good to me!

btw ... for Ram i recommend u Corsair 3200 or 3500 !!
OCZ for absolute best if you really don't give a damn about your money :)
some moons ago, i wanted to upgrade my brothers PC with ram and i asked here in W2S and i can´t remember who, but they gave me a link with Ram´s they tested....it was unbelievable....ALL (OCZ too) had so MANY Mem Errors in standart MEMTEST only Corsair got NO ONE !!!

I had already earmarked Corsair memory. I will order this version they are matched pairs and reasonably priced.
