Audigy 2 platinum on ME
Got a SB audigy 2 Platinum on a p3-866 with Windows ME. It only seems to work with the vxd drivers and not the wdm drivers. When the wdm drivers are installed it shows up fine in device manager but can't be selected as an audio output or input.

Advice for the day: upgrade from ME
You'd be surprised how quickly all your problems would go away with a quick upgrade from ME... in the store, we stress to ME users who come in with problems to upgrade, because most of the time, we'll spend less time installing XP and getting rid of the problems , then tryign to get ME to work.
Working for compaq, when I have to use a machine with ME, it makes me want to cry

Response from Creative Labs Europe was for WinXP but similar probs. Worked, got problems at the moment with services taking loads of CPU useage up after upgraded all patches for Audigy2 drivers and apps
Hope this helps
First I would like to check the references to your Sound Card in the
Device manager.
Right click on my computer
Go to Properties
Then go to Hardware
Then go to Device Manager
Go to Sound Video games Controllers
Then Select your Sound card
then go to its properties
have a look at the Resources of this card and check the interrupt
Request
this should be 5, 9, 10 or 11.
go back to the device manager and then click on the Computer line at the
top
Go to View/Resources by type/Interrupt Request.
This will give a full list of the Interrupt Request or irq settings
check what is sharing the same irq number as your sound and Graphics
card.
Next go back to your Device manager, and check for an onboard Sound Chip
on the Mother Board of your PC. Also check for a reference to a 401
Midi Device, or for a Standard Game Port Joystick. If you have any of
these, they will need to be disabled by a Jumper setting on your Mother
Board, or by a setting in your Bios.
Please consult your Mother Board Manual for more information, or contact
your PC Manufacturers.
If you are still having problems, go into the Device manager, and right
click on the Audigy Card.
Un install all the references to the Sound Card.
Next go into Add remove Programs in your Control Panel, and Uninstall
anything to do with the Audigy Card.
When you reboot your Computer, Cancel the Add new Hardware, when it
appears on the screen.
Search for a file called CTZapxx.exe, on your Installation CD.
Use this to install the Drivers for your Audigy Card.
Next install the software from the Installation CD, then you will be
fine.
Finally I would like you to get the latest Chipset Drivers for your
Mother Board, from the Chipset manufacturers website.
Please retain all the previous correspondence when replying to this
email.
Best Regards

Thanks for all the advice, (still had the same problems) but the problem solved simply by updating my client to XP. I personally have always loathed ME, but I was trying to figure out away for the features to work with ME, cause it says it supports it. Luckily I convinced him to upgrade to XP. Runs great in XP, the Audigy 2 really is a great card (just don't try it with 9x I guess)
what a shame that creatice obviously isn't able to provide their users working drivers for Win ME / 9x
