Audigy 2 & HyperThreading
I think you used the wrong Link. LOL.
This topic was started by DARKHORSE,
I have the ASUS P4T-533 (32bit RDRAM), AUDIGY 2, 3.06 Ghz P4, ATA133 Promise MB Fast Trak Raid 0, 2 Maxtor ATA133 80gig HD's, ASUS Geforce 4 TI4200, 512 megs 32bit RDRAM, Plextor 40x Burner, Pioneer 16x DVD Rom Drive, and a Maxtor ATA133 IDE Controller with a 160 gig Maxtor ATA133 HD. Running XP Pro w/SP1.
MP3's skip intermittantly, get the blue screen of death every now & then. Have tried to disable HT in bios and XP, but mp3's still skip. I am going to try reinstalling XP with HT disabled in the bios as a last chance. No new bios update for the motherboard on the ASUS site & no driver updates on Creative Site. I put the Audigy & the Maxtor IDE controller in PCI slots 4 & 6 respectivly as they are the only PCI slots that are not shared & this did not stop the MP3's from skipping. Is anyone else having this problem?
Thanks..

Thanks anyway, by the way mp3's also stutter/skip even with windows media player.
I am considering using the onboard sound (no treble/bass controls) but aleast it doesnt have the problems the audigy 2 has. I think I will return it and get a refund. I have head good things about turtle beach. I may try them.
I think this is a recurring problem with all companies today somewhat, they are unable to fully test their products due to lack of funds or to they just dont care and we become the beta testers.
I was going to try reloading a different os just to see. But I decided I am not going to be a beta tester for free anymore. I quit, back to the store this thing goes.
Take care everyone.

This problem is not HyperThreading specific and, therefore, turning HyperThreading off in BIOS will not solve it. Unfortuantely Audigy drivers have a problem with Windows' Multprocessor HAL. If you open your device manager and look under "Computer" you should see "ACPI Multiprocessor PC". This will remain even if you disable HT in BIOS and this is what must be changed in order to get it to work properly.
As reinstalling the proper CPU HAL is a major pain, you may be best server with another audio device that has drivers for Multiprocessor PCs. You may also want to simply leave HT on, suffer the problem and wait for new drivers. Intel's HyperThreading should make the Multiprocessor HAL more prevalent and will more or less force hardware developers to conform to Microsoft's Multiprocessor HAL. Unfortunately we all know how long thi scan take
Edit: OOPS! Forgot to mention that you need the "Uniprocessor PC" HAL for the problem to go away.

I disabled it in the bios, and uninstalled it in XP, rebooted twice. The skipping in MP3 audio playback was still present. I figured I might as well turn multi-processor back on, so I re-enabled it in the bios and rolled back the drive for MyComputer, rebooted twice and just for the hell of it played some MP3's and no skipping. Dont understand this, but I remember reading about someone who upgraded to a 3.06 gig processor from a 2.4 on an existing computer with XP installed. He did not reinstall XP, XP detected the changes and he did not have any skipping/jumping audio problems. I installed my XP from scatch as I had a new motherboard and hard drive.
Well hope this helps others.
