OK i read the review and here is what i hav sketched out-
Dont let the number 9000 fool u (i was ) . This card is'nt directX 9 compatible infact its directX 8.1. ATI has (on paper) pitched this one against nvidia Geforce4MX 420/440 cards.
But with some borrowed technology from ATI Radeon 9700 (ok R300) and better hardware handling the Radeon 9000 pro card does give 8500 LE and Ti4200 cards some scare(again read some scare! dont bug me for that).
As this one has the Budget Gamer locked in its radar,it all comes down to pricing. Even though the 9000/pro card is less costlier to produce than 8500; it is priced at arms length with 8500. As it has'nt been long enough time for the prices to fall down; wait for some time it sure will hit the magic $100 mark .
But what about those who want to upgrade thier AGP's for Unreal 2003 Doom, (those r the only names embedded in my cranium for the past months) ; there is no marker to judge performance on these cards .I had mail to John Carmack to atleast release some performance demo runner to calculate and list (in points) what does the card score?. but ...... got no reply(i know who am i that John will care to reply
Any way my advice - Wait for 9700 prices to fall or better in couple of months the 4600 should climb down and then hardcore gamer with little money like me and u can frag in Unreal 2003 @ 100 fps (keeps dreaming).
