cant wait :)

Some people is speculating that ATI R420 would be in 0.15 micron and twice the speed of 9800 PRO. From what I heard R420 will have some similar parts of it´s design with R350 but it will end there
It is more likely that R420 has 8x2 Texture units with very improved design, it should be built in TSMCs 0.13 micron that is becoming more mature everyday and see a speed jump both frequency & processing power
I can predict that with:
8x2 texture units
0.13 micron
core frequency of about 450-500 MHz
improved Z compression technology
256-bit DDR3 at >800 MHz
F-buffer and with Pixel/Vertex Shader V3.0
It could simply be about up to 3 TIMES Faster than 9800 PRO!

I think ATI are starting to rely too heavily on the R300 core. Lets face it, the R350/R360 cores do not deserve their names, do they?
I hope they do alot more than just a few more texture units or rendering pipelines. And a simple MHz speed bump.
Saying that, I would love to see an ATI card with a 500MHz core being fed by 256Mb of 500MHz DDR3! hehehe
I suppose we are at least another year or 2 from seeing Direct-X 10, so ATI and nVidia can afford to pause on their current designs. I just hope that ATI don't get caught with their pants down, and nVidia come to the party with another totally new design in the NV40. I doubt that they will, but I bet being #2 makes nVidia pretty mad, and hungry for the #1 spot, to once and for all blow ATI away.
However, I hope that ATI are playing some mind-games with the industory, and nVidia, and that the new R420 will be a new design that totally blows everything else away!

The R300 core put ATi where they are today....the leader in high-end graphics. Personally, I have heard so much about 0.13 micron pretty much based on how they made the RV350/RV360. I also keep hearing the debate about 12x1/6x2(?) pixel pipeline. It will be 2 times as fast as the 9700 Pro IMO. I can't wait for R420/NV40. Wonder who will have the better product??? And where is R360???? I thought that would be announced by now to be here in time for HL2.
