Anti virus

I heard everyone is saying that the one who create anti virus is the one who create virus also. They spread out new viruses and sell the anti virus to us (making money).

I don't really like this, my opinion is that they create the virus but never release the virus, and then they make the antidot.

What's your(everyone) opinion.

Thanks in advance.

I don't belive in this .... at least not from a well know AV creator like www.kaspersky.com .... if there is one of those "+600% modem speed" firms which may do this but not the well know ... this is tooo risky ... if that is revealed by anyone they are dead

I was one of those EVERYONE you are talking about...

Which Anti-Virus program would you buy the one that always seems to have the fix immediately right???

So the key is if you have someone working on the inside - you create virus send to net and come out with cure first, you have it because you made it right??? Just like an arson you start the fire you're first on scene you're the hero - JUST DON'T GET CAUGHT - happens all the time...

Difference here is there's millions of dollars to be made and we all know everything in life is based on the All Mighty Dollar... But hey that's life... :hail:

I've always thought this and believe it strongly and that is why I have never purchased or used a single Anti-Virus program in the 11 years I've been working in the IT field.

I don't even use firewalls - if you want something from me feel free to try and get it and if you want to try and crash my PC feel free to do that also - simply reblast and I'm up and going again...

I've never had a single virus in that 11 years either. The only thing I ever got was the Blaster Worm and that was Activating Windows after doing a Windows Repair on XP - Reason becuase the hotfixes need to be re-installed before doing so - Once back on net without hotfixes bingo blaster time...

Of course I knew all the steps to stop it so no harm done and that was a joke of a worm anyway...

Just my opinion - you asked you shall receive...

The reason people get virus's is because they open every single email they receive or download files from untrusted areas - everything I receive is sent to deleted items except those I add to my contact list - guess what no spam or junk emails and possibility of virus via the email - only download from newsgroups - if you have any fear use an online scanner to scan a single file or your system - I think these are available - Why Pay???

First don't ever open an email from someone you don't know. Second only download files etc from trusted sites or places like Newsgroups that scan files coming in and out because they don't want their servers getting anything...

You'll never see a virus - the worm is a little different but those are usually caught and a hotfix is put out to stop those... If your computer gets hosed - reformat and start over - this should be done anyway every 3-6 months...

Besides everyone has their own opinion and you must make your own - I look at it this way I'd rather buy another great game than purchase any of that crap.

The problem with that these days is, pretty much ever AV company in the world has a fix out for a major virus the same day it's discovered, with so many security (professional and hobby) groups decompiling viruses and publishing the info, as well as the AV companies own team working on it, having someone on the "inside" no longer really gives anyone a speed advantage, so the cost and risk of getting viruses made dosn't really make good business sense.

and also remember .... how many viruses are discovered per day / week ... does anyone look at who got it first ?! so the must code something like MSBLASTER to make real profit from this action ... but huh ??? wouldn't that be kinda risky ?

Yeah! Save those money for big title game and new hardware is much better idea. Don't give what the bad guy wants, if we buy their product they are going to make more virus.

Besides, there's plenty of good.free online virus scanners now, just run one of them once a week and you should be pretty well covered. (as long as you don't go around running every email attachment you recieve.)
