AMD - Intel : Pros and Cons
Hi, I have to prepare a discussion whether to use Intel or AMDs in Professional applications of the PC. Could you guys help me out with serious pros and cons? Thanks, Martin.

Intel has reputation and that's the primary and principal advantage
Compatibility wise Intel rules
Intel pentium CPU was more expensive than Atlon XP until now
AMD is losing business now, can not compete with Intel since Intel reduced the prices for CPU's
D845 PE/GE chipsets are rock solid coupled with DDR 333 almost near to Rambus performance in some applications not all.
Price/performance ratio AMD wins
Novice PC user use AMD
Pro entusiasts use P4
AMD doesn't have a solid chipset for Athlon XP
Nforce 2 is questionable since it's very new
If anybody has any comment please post here
thanks

AMD has a serious heat problem. Their CPUs have to be throtteled to make sure not to overheat them. They run in temperatureranges of about 50-55 degrees Celcius. This throtteling alone causes all kinds of negative side effects.
My Intel CPU runs at a mere temperature of about 30-35 degrees Celsius (40 degrees Celsius when working at a constant 100% CPU usages for over an hour)! Running in lower temperatures means longer lifespan and less stability problems.

if i were making a gaming machine id go with AMD. If i were using the computer for office/work related things involving lots of multitasking then i would go with intel.
AMD works well for games cuz its very good at not multi tasking. not to say its a bad multitasker. AMD's have a higher throughput level then intels. so when its doing one thing it gets it done faster. which is what you want for games, cuz when you run a game generally you don't have a lot of other things running in the background.
Intels have a smaller throughput so it can get lots multitasking done. and pretty much most of the opposite as above.
AMDs are cheaper
intels are significantly less cheaper.
as for people whining about the heat thing..who cares? I still don't understand why people say AMD's have a serious heat problem. whats serious about it? most processors go thru a 300 degree oven before being shipped to test them. so running 50 degrees is a cake walk.
and so it runs llike 10 degrees hotter then your intel. buy a good fan they cost like $20.
in conclusion. if you want a gaming comp for cheap, go with amd.
if you want a boring office computer or expensive gaming one go with intel

As sammie sad. Intel tend to have a better compatability. and also Intel is very good in decoding anything except graphics (which amd wins here).
I personally Prefer intel: where as an overclocked p4 2.4c 800mhz FSB (lets say to 3.0-3.2, without changing any core voltages) can easly outperform a 3000+ from AMD.
And who said that Amd rulez in game rigs?

AMD is better for gaming / windows / program usage,
intels for multimedia applications....
your so backwards.
Is this bump the old thread week?
huh....my ferarri got more power but it´s slower in max speed than my porsche....so what´s better?.....
AMD is better for gaming and INTEL is better for Office...MY OPINION!

I still would choose an Intel processor because they outperform AMD's a quite a few games, on top of having a faster normal processor use in "office" (Winrar and other apps). :P
maybe....but the INTEL´s costs some more money....so for gamer is still AMD the best choice, in MY OPINION
No Intel processors are getting rather cheap now. Certainly not the price gap there was when Athlon XP first came around :)
yes....i think it´s because of their 64bit hype....now they think they are so good to pump up the prices....
it is like VW (Volkswagen)----- a new VW Golf 5....30000€!!!
and a new Opel Astra .... 16000€
so .....let´s wait

Theres no real advantage or disadvantage to either Intel or AMD unless you have a specific use in mind and dont mind about budget.
There are excellent overclockers in both mfrs range of CPU's.
Both Intel and AMD make a full range of CPU's that go to blindingly quick and Rock stable.
You wont be unhappy with similar class chips from either range, it more or less depends on your budget.
Intel advantages
1) Brand - means nothing to those who know
2) Older chips run a bit cooler than the AMD counterparts (if you dont need cutting edge)
3) Hyperthreading can make using the PC 'feel' more fluent when doing more than 1 CPU intensive task simultaneously.
AMD advantages
1) Cheaper (incredibly so in some cases)
2) Latest chips (90nm) run quite a lot cooler and use less power than Intels latest
3) Mobile and Latest Athlon 64 FX chips are multiplier un-locked
4) Athlon 64 range gives you a free upgrade into 64bit technology as well as outperforming Intel in current games and many other apps
I cannot bring myself to purchase Intel due to cost.
AMD chips are top class and the motherboards that support them too.
At the moment, for me AMD wins on Price, Speed and Temperature.
This can change very quickly so ask again next week ;)
