A7N8X2.0 booting problems
This is a discussion about A7N8X2.0 booting problems in the General Hardware category; I've just got this new motherboard and a new 160GB SATA drive. I installed WinXP with no problems yet after a reboot windows won't load. I've set the BIOS to boot from every device possible and still nothing.

I've just got this new motherboard and a new 160GB SATA drive. I installed WinXP with no problems yet after a reboot windows won't load. I've set the BIOS to boot from every device possible and still nothing.
I found a bad way around it which requires the WinXP CD to be in the drive. If I don't press a key to run the setup then windows will load fine. I assume that I haven't set a BIOS option correctly but after looking through every setting many times I'm still at a loss.
Specs
ASUS A7N8X V2.0 Delxue
1GB DDR400 RAM
160GB SATA Maxtor Hard Drive
PowerColor 256MB Radon 9600 Pro
IDE DVD-ROM + CD-RW
I'm also planning to include my older 60GB as the Primary Master IDE altought I still want windows to boot off the SATA drive, incase this makes any difference.
Any help and ideas about what I should do will be greatly recived

Hi
First device you're booting from is the CD I am assuming
then go it to bios
and make sure the next device that boots is SCSI
then enable SATA in the bios then your done.

OP
I've tried booting from SCSI but nothing happened after the POST completed. The SATA drive is detected, and so is enabled on the motherboard, but I might be missing an option to enable booting from it in the BIOS. Would you happen to know where this?
Thanks

Thanks

should be in the peripherals section

OP
ok, thanks, it now loads windows, although it does wait at the "Verifying DMI Pool Data" for about 30 seconds though. Not sure why this is but at least it loads.
Thanks again

Isn't there a 'try other boot devices' option? Maybe that does something useful like move to the next device if the first is unavailable...
Maybe that is old BIOS I am thinking of..
Dunno.

OP
Yeah, there is that option in the BIOS and it's enabled but the booting process still hangs at the "Verfying DMI Pool Data" for about 30 seconds before loading windows.

if you haven't updated the BIOS to the new 1006 release do it now. A VAST improvement over previous versions...

OP
I checked the BIOS and it is 1006. I didn't update since that's the one the board came with
1007 has better SATA support.

OP
yeah, updateed to 1007, seems a lot better
