just wanted to give an update.

Still think this board is awsome ! absolutely no problems with stability and seems to have good oc potential. I have been able to up my 3Dmark to 17,473 since my first post.

http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=5776405

Unable to get above 192 Mhz using dual channel, works up to 212 Mhz with only one stick. This has given me a few sleepless nights of tweeking and proding (im compulsive) I have tried the Uber Bios for chipset Vdd adjust with no luck. I have tried cutting the 3rd L12 bridge with no change. I have water cooled the NB and no change, I have tried all of the different Bios revisions, I have tried the 100Mhz - 133/166 cpu jumper trick and saw no difference. I have tried every conceivable combination of memory settings and of course have tried different memory slot configurations.

Any other suggestions ? :-?

I think this is luck of the draw with the mobo since I have read several post from people able to run well beyond 200 Mhz using dual channel.

changed the battery as many posts suggest to correct the cold boot problems and that did help with bios settings being retained at boot.

I did the Vcore mod and upped the vcc to 1.95 and was able to get another 160 mhz out of the processor. Don't care to do the mem volt mod right now but have heard it works well too. here is a link to a good thread on the mods:

Hey Major,

What type and also what brand of RAM do you have?

OP
The memory is just "over the shelf" Samsung DDR400, it runs stable at 7-3-3-2.5 up to 200 Mhz, I was running it on a Kt333 mb at 166 mhz and 4-2-2-2 and just havent bought anything better yet. by SPD its 8-4-4-3 at 200 Mhz so this is NOT the good stuff ! hehe

LOL I agree a little the only thing I aint overclocking is my video card.

Its worth more than my CPU and aint worth the extra 10fps.
I have tried to go higher with my CPU but wont go till my new cooler comes around.. till then I am happy with what I got.

RAM quality could be ONE of the reason why you're not able to get passed the 200 Mhz FSB mark. I'm sure you would get better results with a set of Corsair TWINX Memory.

Of course, this is expensive stuff but there's nothing better than Corsair when it comes to very high quality RAM.

masterdon, what is the stepping of your processor, and what voltage do you run it at? also is your motherboard kt333 or 400?

No problem getting over 200 mhz with only one stick or when I run in async mode, only have problem with dual mode and sync which offers the best performance.

Its either the NB or memory, getting some corsair xms3500 next week and we shall see.

I have no trouble getting 202Mhz from my 8RDA+ dual channel. No Vdd mod either - and is what I think you've omitted to do. People who do the hardware Vdd mod get results. Be careful though!

I've been thinking about it, and I might try the volt mod this weekend. I get the shakes when trying to soldier to SMD though ! hehe

If I was you, I would try with some better memory before soldering anything !!! By the way, isn't there a modded bios update for the A7N8X that allow a voltage increase right from the bios? I saw something like that on the nforcersHQ.com website (I think ...)

Oh by the way, there's a new bios version (final)from Asus for your board:

Good luck

I did the volt mod on the mobo for cpu vcc, able to get stable at 2565 now but didnt mess with mem volt, also did volt mod on the R9700 for GPU, and installed some Tweakmonster BGA ramsinks. Got my card up to 405/714 stable and no tears and artifacts.

3Dmark at 18,135 now, just need better mem to get 19,000 +

welp, if watercooling doesnt allow for a higher oc then you must take the natural next step and make the jump to phase exchange cooling.
http://www.hardwaregods.net/prometeia.html

Then you can dedicate your watercooling to the northbridge and radeon.
Has anyone found a waterblock that might work for the DDR on the radeon 9700pro? Swiftech now makes a really cool waterblock for the r9700pro that has a built in peltier....
Final note: anyone aware of whether or not asus plans to release the bios that allows for multiplyer unlocking on the t-bred "B" chips?
