A7N8X + R9700 Pro = WOW !
SO WHAT BIG DEAL
This topic was started by Major Slaughter,
I know some of you die hard OCer's have seen higher scores but this new mobo rocks !
Can't change the multiplier, so im stuck at 180 mhz on the mem but this score is about 2,000 marks higher than my A7V333 and the same processor, memory and video card.
3DMark = 16,711

So the A7N8X is a recommendation then ? im looking at new mainboards.. dunno whether to upgrade now.. only 1.4ghz athlon but its sitting at 166hmz fsb x 9 (1500) atm on a kt266 chipset. Only trouble is all my cards r runnig way overspec.
So is it worth upgrading to this mobo with my current cpu ( i have an albatron ti4200p turbo gfx card + 512mb of pc2300 mem .. cert cl2.5 @143mhz cl2 at 133 ) or wait for the new ambs to arrive ???
Some useful info n advice appreciated

Man if your going for an Nforce board and your an overclocker definately go for an Epox. If you want a feature rich motherboard then go for an ASUS. Check out www.tcwo.com they have the Epox 8RDA+ for $103.00. ONE hell of a deal.

U know the EPOX mobo has the ability to change multipliers without modding your CPU?
There are alot of good choices for a new mobo, I have always been a big fan of ASUS but the Epox would be a better choice for overclocking.
One thing cool about the Nforce2 is that the PCI and AGP bus frequency are not affected by overclocking the front side bus I think this should allow for higher processor overclocking without one of your cards holding you back.
If you looking for a fast, stable and feature packed mobo I would definetly give the A7N8X a thumbs up !
No problem changing the multipliers on the A7N8X, my processor was not unlocked at the time. Since the post I have unlocked it and have been able to run 12x192 @ 2304 stable but with lower 3DMark score because of lower performace memory settings. Currently running at 12.5x185 @ 2312 with roughly the same scores.

But what I was saying is you dont have to unlock your CPU to change the multipliers. No physical modding your CPU. The EPOX can control the CPU multipliers of a Thoroughbred REV B or higher.
Ok its been a few weeks since I first posted this thread, just wanted to give an update.
Still think this board is awsome ! absolutely no problems with stability and seems to have good oc potential. I have been able to up my 3Dmark to 17,473 since my first post.

Unable to get above 192 Mhz using dual channel, works up to 212 Mhz with only one stick. This has given me a few sleepless nights of tweeking and proding (im compulsive) I have tried the Uber Bios for chipset Vdd adjust with no luck. I have tried cutting the 3rd L12 bridge with no change. I have water cooled the NB and no change, I have tried all of the different Bios revisions, I have tried the 100Mhz - 133/166 cpu jumper trick and saw no difference. I have tried every conceivable combination of memory settings and of course have tried different memory slot configurations.
Any other suggestions ? :-?
I think this is luck of the draw with the mobo since I have read several post from people able to run well beyond 200 Mhz using dual channel.
changed the battery as many posts suggest to correct the cold boot problems and that did help with bios settings being retained at boot.

I did the Vcore mod and upped the vcc to 1.95 and was able to get another 160 mhz out of the processor. Don't care to do the mem volt mod right now but have heard it works well too. here is a link to a good thread on the mods:

Sure I thought I had put it in the post

I just ran 3Dmark and got 17,473 and updated the compare link. The link to the results I orginally posted was not published.
