9700pro - aluminum plate fell off

Any actual purpose to the aluminum plate? It looked like it was just glued on to the card or rather a couple of rubber grommets. thanks.

not the hsf... there is or rather was a small aluminum plate placed on one corner of the card. Seemed to me it might have been put there as RF shielding. Just wondering. I haven't noticed any problems with it off the board anyway. :)

I believe it was put there are partner manufacturer's request to help disipate ( does that have 1 or 2 s's?) heat from the group of large capacitors on the other side of it.

If it hadn't "fallen off" I'm sure you'd have noticed that it actually got "quite hot".

It may not be absolutely vital but it was put there for a reason so my suggestion would be to put it back.

It is your choice of course!! 8)

thanks for the info. I put it back using AS3 composite. One thing I did notice was the intermittent crackling sound that suddenly appeared around the time it fell off is now gone. Hehehe. Guess it was there for a reason.

Its a heat sink for the mem voltage regulator you definetly need to get it back on and functional.
