41.09 and MoHAA problems... anyone else?
Buddy of mine has weird performance problem with latest detonators in MoHAA. . . 29 series works just fine, but these new ones slows the whole comp down to 486 level.

Specs to his comp:
AMD t-Bird 1200
Abit kg7
256 DDR
~5000 3DMark2001SE points... (with the latest dets... 4800 with 29 series) ... seems bit odd...

Anything being overclocked? Anything changed at all besides the drivers? Have you looked to make sure that for some very odd reason that the v-card may be under clocked???
If nothing else have changed.. Totally un-install the drivers.. Delete any Nvidia folders. If you have a registry cleanng program, run that. Reboot & install the 40.72 drivers..

My 3D Mark scores using the default benchmark set up are
40.72: 10957
41.09: 12060*
*Using Via 4in1 4.45
as you can see the 41.09 are good for me, I play MoHAA a lot, after installing 41 dets the image quality is fantastic, frame rates are fast and no problems or hitches when running the game for hours on end, and the same coes for Combat Flight Sim 3.
Have you made sure that you turn of texture sharpning, Antialaising, Anistropic filtering and set performace to aggresive and open 3D settings to "best performance" in the Nvidia control panel before running 3D Mark. My scores before doing this were in the 6000-8000 range!

Never mind the fact that 3dmark is Direct 3d, and MOH is Opengl, so boosting your marks in 3dmark wont do spit for moh now will it?
Also never mind the fact that 3dmark is crap to begin with.
...Right! but 3DMark scores gives you some idea if something is wrong.. but I'll have to agree that with couple of "tweaks" you are able to get huge points from 3DMark... so it's not total performance meter!
But to get to the MoHAA problem. Nothing else than the drivers vere changed! no OC no nothing! When MoHAA started, it was like using old 486, mouse was slow as hell and none of the animations would'nt run...

For your information, my benchmarks are run at the 1024x768x32bit default.
My suggestions for turning of those features were to see if MoHAA would run any better for DFence. However, if i run games at those settings... what low blocky imagine quality? must be somthing wrong with your comp if thats what you get!

I still dont think using a d3d "benchmark" will tell you much about your opengl problems.
Try an opengl benchmark instead, theres Tirtanium (dated but...) search google for it
and theres http://www.glexcess.com/default.asp

the reason I say this is, when i run the 30xx drivers for my GF4 (and my old gf2MX) i get horrible sound stutter, sure the performance is there, but the sound is just crap... in D3D games. but in opengl games their just fine.

exactly what card is your friend using (or did i miss it?)
and what os is he running?
is there any particular reason he needs to run the 4xxx det's?
if not then i'd say go back to the ones that worked (i personally like the official 29.42's myself)
also, did he do a fresh uninstall of the old drivers, deleting the files/folders of said drivers, and then doing a nice fresh install of the 4109's? also check the nvidia control panel, and see if all the files are listed as 4109.
i've run nvidia since my 4meg ZX card, and have been through just about every single driver release they had, but in the last i'd say.. year, i quite doing that, i never gained an amazing boost over previous drivers (as long as i dont get any bugs, or chugging in games i stick to the same drivers now).
a good philosophy to have when it comes to drivers.. any drivers, "if its not broke dont fix it":)
I was playing around with my GF4 last night to see if I could eak out anymore performance without soldering resisters to it.. I tried a better heatsink & fan combo but had nothing to anchor it to so I was forced to use super glue... Anyway... By using the super glue I went from low 10k to mid 7k... ACK!!!! I also took off my CPU & totally covered the CPU chip top & edges with heatsink compound & my CPU temp droped about 5 degrees.. So... With the CPU running cooler by totally covering the chip in heatsink compound I decided to load up the GF4 chip & was forced to use its default heatsink/fan since it can anchor to the board.. Sure enough I went right back to 10k.. Now I'm not a noob with the heatsink compound but I have never really tried to totally cover the chips from edge to edge...
Point to all this your asking by now? Maybe your friends heatsink/fan isn't attached proper & may not have any heatsink compound at all... If no drivers work, & the heatsink/fan is fine then my guess is the cards a dud or if its a old card I would bet it was OC'ed to high without proper cooling for too long thus making it a dud.. If its new from a store, for god sakes take it back (if possible) & get a new 1.. I actually got 2 duds from the store in 1 night & the 3rd card worked fine.. All in the same night. LOL!!! Good luck & in the future try letting us know what you have done already to figure out the problem so there is less repeated guessing..

Card is "oldie" Geforce 2 GTS with 64Mbs of DDR... and OS is from Micro$oft... windblows XP SP1
4x.xx drivers give's him (my friend that has these problems) a bit better performance in NFS etc ... so he would like to use those drivers... only MoHAA is screwed up...
This MoHAA problem is strating to be really annoying... Re-Install etc. won't do any good!

hmm, i've heard that for d3d the new 4x is good, but if your looking for good opengl the 30xx are better.. dunno myself like i said the performance is always about the same, and the graphics always look nice.
in order to get both to run he may need to settle with an earlier driver (has he tried the 30xx?)
I too am running XP/SP1, and i played MOHAA with my old MX and the new GF4 4200 i just recently purchased, for the mx i used the 2942's with great success, but i dont think i've played MOHAA with the new 4109's (had to remove MOHAA to install UT2k3, then i removed ut2k3, and tossed the cd's in the bin, and havnt reinstalled MOH... yet)
try the 30xx if he hasnt already and/or hit this site here:
http://www.techspot.com/tweaks/mohaa/index.shtml
if i have time in the next day or two (which i should) i'll reinstall mohAA and see how it does with the 4109's

LOL!!! I hear that... UT2K3 blows!!!!
Anyway... Back to dFence... What settings is your friend running MOHAA at?? Resolution? Is all the bells & whistles running in the game? How many programs are running in windows background? I was browsing the BF 1942 forums last night & I find it extremely shocking what some of these people are telling each other there... That you have to have 256 megs of ram just for Win XP!?!?! That's utter BS!!! You need 256 for XP if you have all the bells & whistles XP offers running!!! Personally I have 512 megs but XP is only using right about 100 exactly for the OS... That leaves a hell of a lot of free ram for games, & other programs I choose to run..
Point to this is you can tweak the hell out of Win XP... Start with the OS tweaking before you tweak anything else... Here is a link to a very good XP tweaking article..

Your friends 3Dmark scores are rather good for a "Geforce 2 GTS with 64Mbs of DDR" Make sure you have some of the following settings for open gl in your display settings.
Buffer Flipping mode = Auto
Vertical sync = Always off
Anisotropic Filtering = Disabled
Use up to at least 16 megs of system memory for textures in PCI mode
3D Atialiasing = Manually select it off!!! & click texture sharpening....
1 thing I found the other day which I had no idea about was the Digital Vibrance setting!!!! WOW!!! that thing is killer!!! All my games look a lot better set to max.. Its under your nView display mode/Device settings/color correction. I set it to max & it looks great.. No slow down either... Btw... your friend may want to set his monitor refresh at 60 & whatever the max is he can do to see if either is faster.. I have mine set to 85 hertz @ 1024x768 32bit... Thats what I use in gaming also...
Good luck.

Yes... he's 256 problem is one major "thing" but he has no hassle with any other games... so this is why only MoHAA stands out.. I agree with this memory issue, he should have more, but... but... but...
We have tweaken the windows pretty good allready, to be honest I just told him to loose the MoHAA and start a 1942 or UT2k... but he's one presisdent MF... It's just a shame that we are not able to run those new 4x.xx series drivers... He's allrigt with the older drivers, but still this disturbs...
We'll put those 3x.xx drivers to test... let's see how those go along with MoHAA...
....I originally started this post to see if there's anyone else running same problems... but it seems my friend is stuck alone with his MoHAA and dets 4x.xx problems...
I promise, if we get around this.. I'll post a freaking novel about how we did that!!
