Hi everyone,

I just tried playing Vietcong Demo on my computer after being impressed by it at a friends place who had a Geforce4. It looked horrible on my SiS650.

After that im sure I want to get Geforce graphics card. I just saw a
"3G 128M DDR Geforce4 MX440" advertised at a local computer store for a fairly cheap price. I cant find any reviews of this card on the net. At this time I cannot afford any of the Ti models of the Geforce4 and this card sounds pretty good.

Any comments on this card are greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Dan

Well if you do not play games all that much then yes a GeForce 4 MX440 will be fine for you...
Just keep in mind, the GeForce 4 MX series is a jazzed up GeForce 2 :-?
Games will run fine on lower resolution and detail but will struggle on the higher resolutions and higher detail.
Can you say...low FPS and crap image quality?

If you do play games quite a bit, then i'd recommend a 128MB GeForce 4 Ti4200 or a Ti4400.
Both models are relatively cheap now and offer great performance and image quality.

Thanks for the reply,

I think I might wait a little while. I have heard that the prices are gonna drop when Nvidia release their new card. Maybe then i'll get one of the models you mentioned.

Just another question. How well would a 128MB GeForce 4 Ti4200 or a Ti4400 work on P4 1.5ghz?

Thanks Again
Dan

Umm...it might be! Remember when the P4s first came out? They were at 1.3, 1.4, and 1.5. They were way overpriced and sucked badly. Today...they are basically worthless and you might just think about getting AMD down the road too...say a Athlon XP Tbred!

keep in mind that the Geforce4 MX's are not true Geforce 4 cards they have none of the true Geforce 4 cards architecture they are geforce 2's that have been overclocked by nvidia and badged with the Geforce 4 mx label.

go to newegg.com I bet you can find a Geforce4 ti4200 there for almost the same price as the mx440 at the local computer store.

iss, you are misinformed...
They are not just overclocked GF2's, the hardware has also been modified.
GeForce 4 MX440s outperform the GeForce 3 Ti200 in the Serious Sam 2 engine...
The GF2 had no hope of doing that.

The first P4s (Williamettes) weren't worthless they were just abandoned because of the crap form factor (Socket 423).

A Ti4200/4400 would run very well on a P4 :)

Thanks for all the replys,

My CPU is 1.6ghz - "Northwood" I think.

Im gonna wait a bit and get a Geforce4 Ti model now. Thanks for the help - I could have wasted a bit of money.

Thanks again

the geforce4 MX 440 outperforms the Geforce 3 Ti200 in serious sam "Benchmark" soley because of core clock speed. the Geforce 3 Ti200 ships at a measly 175mhz the MX 440 has 270 mhz

the G3 Ti200 is a DX 8.1 complaiant card the MX440 is not it has no hardware pixel or vertex shader capabilities. overall in a full benchmark like 3Dmark the G3 Ti200 will still outperform the Mx440

I bought a 3G 128mb ddr it was really crappy and kept freezing in benchmarks and games so i buy a Maya Radeon 9000pro its about the same price abou $20 more its worth it but u should save up for a GF4 Ti

the GF4 mmx are basically souped up GF2's with higher core configurations

dont buy 3G

I had a Geforce3 Ti200 never had a problem with it but the Radeon 9000 pro will outperform it. the Geforce 4 Ti4200 leaves the radeon 9000 pro in the dust and currently there isnt a huge price difference between the two.
