Israel launches a TV channel created specially for your home alone pups.
Dog TV is exactly what it sounds like. An Israeli production company got the idea from one of their office workers, Ron Levi. Levi felt guilty for leaving his cat at home alone all day, so he took his idea for pet programming to his boss. It was decided to focus on a canine audience due to their pack oriented disposition.
With content that has been "developed using scientific studies as well as help from expert trainers, there is no irritating barking or high-frequency sound," says the producers. There is soothing music and blue and yellow tones (but not red or green due to canine colour-blindness). In addition to these efforts, based on extensive research there is also a cycle to the programming that mimics the dog's natural day: stimulation, relaxation, and simulation of everyday sounds.
"We get a great response from dogs that are normally bored. Dogs that bark all day and their neighbours go crazy because of it - all of a sudden they are sleepy and relaxed," Mr Levi says. But still, some dogs are not so easily won over: a resident of Tel Aviv told Levi, "We tried to get them to look at the television and they just sat there looking at us as if we were crazy and then went on with their normal doggy life."
Levi also says that there have been reports of cats even sneaking a peak at the canine programming.
