For the hardcore Instagramer.
Most of us have used an old 35mm camera before, and some of us even still own one. Personally, I have a Pantex K 1000 and love it to bits. But do you know what I don't love? Having thousands of negatives in boxes in my closet. Not all of us have the luxury of using a dark room to caringly develop our film and process our prints, much less convert negatives directly to a digital format.
In the day of instant information, immediate photo-sharing, and an insatiable need to edit every picture you take with your smartphone, Lomography's first ever Kickstarter project is here to help.
Aptly named the Smartphone Film Scanner, this device attaches to your smartphone (restrictions apply!) and snaps a pictures of the negative with it's app before giving you your print which you can then edit in-app to your heart's desire. It really is that simple. (The Lomography Smartphone Film Scanner also can create panoramas, and make video clips/GIFs!)
But before you go bounding to Kickstarter to pledge your money here are some things to consider.
This thing doesn't run on love: you will need 2 AA batteries to power it.
There are limitations to what phones are compatible with the scanner: all iPhones are a go, and any "smartphones with a camera lens at the center should have a phone width of 3.7-inches or less, and smartphones with a camera lens in the corner should have a phone width of 2.44-inches or less."
And finally, the resolution of your scanned negative will "always be a bit less than the resolution of your smartphone camera."
If you can stomach those things then please by all means go get one. And get me one.
